MEGA Brands

MEGA BRANDS PARTNERS WITH INTERTEK TO EXCEED CURRENT SAFETY STANDARDS WITH NEW MAGNETIC CONSTRUCTION TOY

MEGA Brands is set to launch a revolutionary new magnetic toy construction system called MagNext. This new system will allow for the safest possible magnetic play and will make it possible for children to create bigger, stronger and faster builds.

MagNext will be the first magnetic construction system to have no small parts that contain magnets, setting a new standard in the toy industry, both in terms of safe magnetic play and innovation in the magnetic construction category.

“Children's safety is our number one priority,” stated Marc Bertrand, President and Chief Executive Officer of MEGA Brands. “MEGA Brands is committed to creating the highest safety standards in the toy industry and we are passionate about our quest for zero defects in all the toys we make and our mission for safety without compromise.”

Through a partnership with Intertek, one of the world's leading quality and safety labs, MEGA created a first of its kind ‘ingestion gauge’ that led to the development of MagNext, a line that exceeds all current magnetic toy safety standards.

“We're proud to partner with MEGA Brands to help them achieve their goal of developing a new zero defects program that will set the highest safety standard in the toy industry,” expressed Gene Rider, Vice-President of Intertek.

The design of the core MagNext pieces has been tested and analyzed by Intertek. In addition to leading the way in safety with the new ingestion test, the manufacturing process for these parts has improved by insert-molding the magnets into the plastic parts.

Going forward, Intertek will also apply the most stringent and state-of-the-art safety testing process on all new MEGA toy lines. MEGA’s alignment with Intertek is a testament to its commitment and dedication to creating the highest safety standards in the toy industry. This partnership will reinforce MEGA’s unparalleled dedication to safe toys and practices, and its reputation as a trusted brand when it comes to safety.

JPMA Certification Program

With more than 30 years and 18 product categories under its belt, the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association’s Certification Program has helped guide consumers toward smarter, safer juvenile product purchases. Currently, more than 2,000 juvenile products are JPMA Certified, and the program is continuing to grow!

JPMA certified products include:
Bassinets/Cradles
Bath Seats
Carriages/Strollers
Changing Tables
Folding Chairs – beginning in September 2008
Frame Child Carrier
Full-Size Cribs
Gates & Enclosures
Hand-Held Infant Carriers
Highchairs
Infant Bouncers
Infant Swings
Play Yards/ Non-Full Size Cribs
Portable Bed Rails
Portable Hook-on Chairs
Soft Infant Carriers
Stationary Activity Centers
Toddler Beds
Walkers

The American Society for Testing & Materials (ASTM) developed and published the standards. JPMA and industry members, consumer groups and staff from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission are involved in the development of the standards.

To become JPMA Certified, a product must be tested by an independent testing facility for compliance with the specific ASTM standards. If a product passes the tests, JPMA allows the manufacturer to label it with the JPMA Certified Seal.

The JPMA Certification Seal on a product tells consumers this product has been verified as conforming to the requirements established by ASTM through independent laboratory testing and follow-up on-site inspection of the manufacturer’s production line. By placing a JPMA certification seal on a product, the manufacturer certifies that the product meets the requirements for certification. Our symbol of certification is a symbol of confidence that the juvenile products have met these performance standards. This confidence extends to customers in the buying decisions they make.
Look for the JPMA Certification Seal on a product or its package for added assurance the manufacturer designed and built it with safety in mind. The JPMA Certification Seal ensures the product was built to the very highest safety standards.

The first step in keeping baby safe is careful selection of juvenile products. When buying juvenile products, insist only on those bearing the Certified Seal!
